Medicaid is changing in New York. Now is the time to get ready. If you have Medicaid, you may get a notice in the mail about the new rules. The changes could affect your coverage. What’s changing

  • New Medicaid rules start January 1, 2027. But you may need to act before then.
  • Don’t wait until January. Open and answer any notices about Medicaid.
  • These rules won’t apply to everyone. There are several exceptions.

Does this affect me?

The new rules mostly apply to adults ages 19 to 64 who have Medicaid. They usually do not apply to children, adults who are 65 and older, people who are pregnant, or people who qualify based on a disability. There are other exceptions, too.

What will I need to do to keep my coverage?

If the rules apply to you, they start on January 1, 2027. Each month, you’ll need to do at least 80 hours of approved activities.

These can include:

  • Working full-time or part-time
  • Job training or a work program
  • Going to school at least half-time
  • Volunteering or helping in your community

You can mix activities to reach 80 hours. You can also meet the rule by earning at least $580 a month. Every person’s situation is different. Call us, and we’ll walk you through what applies to you.

How will I know if I’m affected?

Watch for notices about your Medicaid coverage. Be sure to open any mail from New York State of Health. Did you get a notice about the new rules? Not sure what it means? Call us at 315-531-9102. We can help you understand it and find out what to do.

What happens if I don’t meet the new rules?

If it looks like you don’t meet the rules, you’ll get a notice. You then have 30 days to fix it, and your coverage stays active during that time. That’s why it helps to open your mail and reach out early. We can help you sort it out before your coverage is at risk.
