THE COVID-19 VACCINE IS HERE AT FINGER LAKES COMMUNITY HEALTH!

This page provides information for our medical patients. If you are not an FLCH patient, click here for our Community Vaccine Events.

Finger Lakes Community Health (FLCH) is now providing the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to all individuals who are 18 years of age and older. The Moderna COVID-19 vaccines is a two-shot vaccination series. The second dose is scheduled 28 days after your first dose.

The FDA authorized the third dose of Moderna COVID vaccine (this is not a booster shot) to be given to people with moderate to severe immunosuppression. This includes:

• Active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
• Organ transplant recipients who are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
• Stem cell transplant recipients (within the last 2 years or taking immunosuppressive medications)
• Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
• Advanced or untreated HIV infection
• Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids (e.g. cortisone, prednisone) or other drugs that may suppress your immune response

The third dose must be given at least 28 days after your second dose. Studies showed inadequate immune responses to only two doses in these populations, so this is considered part of the initial dose series and is not the same as a booster shot. If you fall into one of these categories and have already completed your 2-dose series, please click here to request your additional dose. If you have not completed your 2-dose series, your additional dose will be scheduled at the completion of your 2nd vaccination. If you have a question about whether you should receive a third dose, please complete the Vaccination Request Form and list your COVID Vaccination questions by clicking here.

Note: Patients receiving the third dose will need to sign a document attesting that they are immunocompromised and are eligible for a third dose of vaccine based on the criteria above.

Booster:
On August 18, 2021, Public health officials released a statement saying that adults who received the Moderna vaccines should get a booster shot 8 months after their second dose. This plan is still subject to FDA approval. A booster shot is meant to maintain an already adequate immune response in people who previously completed the series.

We will update our website as more information becomes available.
