Our School-Based Counseling Program

Counseling services are available in Penn Yan during school hours!

We’re excited to announce that Finger Lakes Community Health is collaborating with Penn Yan Central Schools to bring counseling services to your child during school hours!

Mental health services are important for your family, but we know how difficult it can be to make time for these appointments while juggling your family’s needs. By offering these services during school hours, everybody wins — most importantly, your child!

How does it work?

We are providing these counseling services virtually – using video technology. Your child will be at school in a safe, comfortable setting that is familiar to them, and our provider Jennie Bell, LMHC, will meet with your child from her Finger Lakes Community Health office. We welcome parents to accompany their child to these appointments, however, when this isn’t possible we can proceed with the counseling session with your permission. If a treatment plan is needed, it will be developed between the child, the child’s parents, and our therapist.

What schools will be offering this service?

Counseling services will be available at Penn Yan Elementary School, Penn Yan Middle School, and the Penn Yan Academy. Whether your child is experiencing anxiety, depression or even suicidal thoughts, we are here to help!

What is the cost to me?

If you have health insurance, you will only be responsible for your co-pay. If you don’t have insurance, we offer generous discounts based on your income.

What happens when school is closed?

These services will be provided when school is open. If a crisis arises while the school is closed, treatment is still available by calling Finger Lakes Community Health at (315) 536-2752. If it’s an emergency, call 911.

For questions, please contact your school’s social worker:

For questions contact the social worker at your child’s school.

Once we’ve received your child’s completed enrollment packet, a member of the Finger Lakes Community Health team will contact you and the school to coordinate a time that works for your child and doesn’t disrupt their academic schedule.

By working together, Finger Lakes Community Health, the Penn Yan School District and parents have the ability to improve the quality of life of their children. We are excited to offer this service to the families in our community!
