Growing up, Amy Melendez participated in several mission trips to various countries, working in underserved areas. These experiences really opened her eyes to what it means to care for others, especially those in vulnerable situations.
It was through these experiences that she came to understand the profound impact of compassion, connection, and access to healthcare. That’s what inspired her to pursue a career in medicine. She wanted to be someone who could make a difference, not just through treatment, but by listening to and supporting patients.
She came to work at Finger Lakes Community Health because it has the resources and providers who are committed to advocating for patients and looking beyond cultural differences to offer the best care. Amy is bilingual in Spanish and English, which has allowed her to engage with a diverse range of patients, ensuring that they feel heard and respected. She believes that empathy and cultural sensitivity are key to providing quality care. She would like to break down the barriers and make healthcare more accessible to all.
In her free time, she enjoys traveling as a backpacker and seeking out unique, extreme experiences in every country she visits. One of her favorite adventures is hiking volcanoes.
